Hair perm in Tallinn: price, how long it lasts and care

A modern hair perm is nothing like the stiff, dry curls of the 1980s. Gentler formulas and rods of different diameters make it possible to create soft beach waves, root volume or defined springy curls — for both women and men. Below we explain how a perm session works at our T1 Mall salon, what hair length it suits, how long the curls hold and what the service costs.

What is a modern hair perm?

A perm (permanent wave) is a treatment that briefly softens the inner bonds of the hair shaft, wraps the sections around rods of the chosen size, and neutralises the hair to lock in the new wave or curl pattern. Caring ingredients in modern formulas keep the hair flexible and bouncy after the session.

Depending on rod size and wrapping technique, the result ranges from natural texture and lift to tighter curls. For women, we perform chemical curling together with a haircut on hair up to shoulder length — the length where curls hold their spring evenly from root to tip without being pulled flat by weight.

How does the session work?

A perm session with a haircut takes around 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes and follows five steps:

1. Consultation and hair check. Your stylist checks hair elasticity, density and past colour history, then selects the rod diameter and solution strength.
2. Clarifying wash. The hair is washed clean of styling buildup so the curling lotion absorbs evenly.
3. Wrapping and lotion. Section by section, the hair is wound onto rods and the waving lotion is applied.
4. Neutralising. Once the curl pattern has developed, the hair is rinsed on the rods and a neutraliser locks the new shape in place.
5. Haircut and diffuser finish. After the rods are removed, the stylist cuts the hair to frame the new curl pattern and dries it with a diffuser.

Men’s perm

In recent years, a men’s perm has become one of our most requested services. Most often, curls are added to longer hair on top while the sides and back are kept sharp with a clipper fade or scissor taper. The result gives instant morning texture and volume that only needs a touch of curl cream or matte paste.

How long does a perm last and how do you care for it?

A perm lasts 3–6 months on average, gradually relaxing into a softer wave as the hair grows. A few simple habits keep the curls defined and hydrated:

• Do not wash or wet your hair for the first 48 hours after your appointment — the new bonds need that time to settle completely.
• Use a sulphate-free shampoo and moisturising conditioner designed for curly or treated hair.
• Air-dry or use a diffuser attachment on low heat, and detangle wet hair with a wide-tooth comb rather than a fine brush.
• To replenish moisture a few weeks after a perm, book a salon hair reconstruction treatment (50–60 €).

• Women’s perm + haircut (permissible hair length up to the shoulders, duration ~2 h 30 min): 90–110 €.
• Men’s perm (without haircut, duration ~2 h 15 min): 70 €.
