Balayage is a French freehand colour technique where bleach is hand-painted onto the hair surface with small sweeping strokes (the word itself means “sweeping”). No foils, no fixed sectioning. The result is a strong contrast at the ends with a soft transition near the roots \u2014 visually it looks like the hair has been sun-lightened naturally.<\/p>\n
Ketyswit Beauty performs balayage on the second floor of T1 Mall at Peterburi tee 2. We use Wella Blondor lightener (with built-in plex protection), L’Or\u00e9al toners, and Olaplex No.1 and No.2 bond builders in-session. Each appointment opens with a one-hour consultation: we assess hair structure, review your colour history, check the result under natural window light, and discuss what shade is realistically achievable \u2014 strong dark base hair cannot become platinum blonde in one session.<\/p>\n
A balayage session takes 3-5 hours depending on hair density and length. The first hour is consultation plus prep: hair analysis, reference-photo review, daylight check, allergy patch (if first time). The next 1.5-2 hours is the lightening itself \u2014 the master applies bleach in 8-12 freehand sections, foil-free or partial-foil. We monitor processing every 15 minutes visually.<\/p>\n
After lightening: wash and Olaplex No.2 bond restoration for 10 minutes. Then toning \u2014 either single-shade glaze or multi-dimensional dual-tone. Toning takes 20-30 minutes and locks in the chosen tone (gold, cool, rose, pearl).<\/p>\n
Final stage: fresh trim plus styling \u2014 split ends are cut, Olaplex No.3 home mask applied, blow-dry and Wella EIMI finishing products. You leave with a fully styled head; the toning holds through the first wash.<\/p>\n

We suggest booking touch-ups every 10-14 weeks \u2014 this keeps the gradient fresh and prevents banding. A touch-up takes 2-3 hours and stays in the same length tier.<\/p>\n
These three techniques look similar but differ technically.<\/p>\n
Ombre is a horizontal colour transition \u2014 dark roots, light ends, hard line. Balayage is vertical and freehand \u2014 softer, more natural, no visible line.<\/p>\n
Airtouch is a newer technique that uses a hair-dryer to blow apart hair sections before lightening. The result is more pixel-like and sharper than balayage, but the session takes 2 hours longer (up to 7 hours). We also offer airtouch \u2014 ask your master at the consultation.<\/p>\n
Shatush is an Italian method with thicker highlight bands \u2014 visually bolder, suits denser hair. Workflow similar to balayage but with stronger contrast.<\/p>\n
Balayage aftercare focuses on hydration and bond rebuilding. The first 48 hours: do not wash at all \u2014 toning sets fully in this window. After the first wash, use sulphate-free shampoo (Olaplex Bond Maintenance, Wella Color Brilliance, K18) and a deep moisture conditioner 1-2 times a week.<\/p>\n
Olaplex No.3 home mask once a week (leave on for 10-15 minutes before washing) keeps the structure strong. Avoid chlorine (use a silicone-free protectant before pool sessions), excessive heat styling, and sun-exposed hair without protection.<\/p>\n
Toning fades over 4-8 weeks; the gradient itself lasts 10-14 weeks. To refresh the tone we can book a 30-minute glaze session (\u20ac40) without re-lightening.<\/p>\n
Heavily damaged hair already showing breakage or elasticity loss (test: stretch a wet hair \u2014 if it does not bounce back, it is too weak) \u2014 we recommend a 4-6 week Olaplex No.3 home cycle first, then re-analyse. Lightening damaged hair often ends in breakage.<\/p>\n
Hair previously coloured with henna \u2014 we do not perform balayage. Henna and chemical lighteners react unpredictably. The same applies to some dark powder dyes and box dyes used within the last 6 months.<\/p>\n
During pregnancy or breastfeeding, balayage is technically possible (skin contact with the dye is minimal) \u2014 but consult your doctor for individual advice and book a phone consultation in advance.<\/p>\n
Does balayage damage hair?<\/strong> Any lightening removes pigment, which means some structural change. Wella Blondor plus Olaplex No.1+2 cuts that impact by 60-70% compared to classic lightening without a plex system. Heavily damaged hair should not be lightened.<\/p>\n How often can I repeat?<\/strong> Up to 4 times a year (every 10-14 weeks) is safe. More frequent causes cumulative damage.<\/p>\n How long does it last?<\/strong> Toning 4-8 weeks, gradient itself 10-14 weeks. For tone refresh we offer a separate glaze session (\u20ac40).<\/p>\n Can I go darker after balayage?<\/strong> Yes, for a few months you can tone darker without re-lightening.
